Pamela Miles

In a wide range of subject matter, Pamela Miles used pattern, color and composition to create pictures of everything from landscape, floral, still life, and imagined tropical scenes to figure studies. She began adapting early American folk art and painting small floral works on wood, selling at art fairs in the Chicago area. Her first solo show of original work was at Swearingen Gallery in Louisville, KY in 1980. She was commissioned by Historic Homes of Louisville to create their poster of Locust Grove in 1981. In 1982, the Louisville Ballet commissioned a poster for Billy the Kid. She has had work shown in an Artist Invitational at Liberty National Bank of Kentucky. In 1983, she had a solo show of works from 1979 to 1983 at the Kentucky State Capitol: Pamela Miles — Retrospective of a Kentucky Primitive Painter. From 1984 to 1990 she was represented in group shows at Jay Johnson Gallery in Madison Avenue in New York (America’s Folk Heritage Gallery). Her work was included in the Annual Folk Art Calendar. She was also represented in American Folk Art of the 20th Century by Johnson and Ketchum, published by Rizzoli in 1983.
